Tolerance

At the “Reporting Across Cultures” session, a debate started on Tolerance @etharkamal responded very clealry on the use of the word in her response to the question from the audience.

The word tolerance tends to be used without any real understanding of it´s meaning.  Many minorities would say,  I may be different,  but I don´t want to be tolerated, I want to be treated as equal and respected for who I am.

This is an ongoing debate and one in which I have bene engaged for many years, a similar debate took place on twitter last year (June 2009) and is summarised here at Nonformality  and contains several links to articles which go into more detail on the debate.

I think it´s important to explore this further and continue the debate.
